What is a Christ Follower?
The Bible tells us that Jesus is God incarnate; Heis God the Son, eternally one with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. Healone can forgive our sins and give salvation.
The writer of Hebrews explains how "In the past God spoke to our fore fathers through the prophets at many times and invarious ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven" (Hebrews1:1-3).
Many people believe that Jesus lived, was a good teacher and a very spiritual man, but they deny that he is God. A diluted Jesus is not the real Jesus. We must be careful to believe in the Jesus that he himself declared he was, "not be[ing] led astray from [our] sincere and pure devotion to Christ" (2 Corinthians 11:3).
We have chosen to be authentic Christ-followers. What does that mean? It simply means we are on a daily pursuit to follow after Christ every day. We mess up. We are not perfect. We try and then we try again. We don’t fake it. We read scripture and we pray to communicate with Jesus and attempt to live it out not with just words, but with our hands and our feet. We believe he has the ability to transform someone’s life. He’s transformed ours.
We have chosen to love people with the love that has been given to us through grace from a cross. It isn’t easy following Christ. It isn’t some little prayer that you repeat and everything wrong your life goes away. Jesus said “to take up your cross and follow me”. He told us we would have to endure and at times suffer. When you accept him into your life circumstance doesn’t change, but the way you look at it does. It’s hard. It takes commitment and it takes discipline. Having faith is one of the hardest things you’ll ever do, but it is worth it. We’ve chosen to believe in Christ as not just our Savior, but Lord over everything. That means we’ve layed our dreams aside to make his name famous. We’d rather live each day knowing he is with us, then be all alone and experience life’s difficulties by ourselves.
It’s your decision and no one will force it on you, at least we won’t. It is the best one you’ll ever make. So think about it. Grab some scripture and chew on it. A great book to begin with is the book of John found in the New Testament. You check out this man name Jesus and decide for yourself if he's worth following. If you have questions we’ll take time to answer them, but please know that we don’t have all the answers and will not pretend that we do. We’re on a journey just like you. Will you join us? We would say take your time, but there’s not much of that to go around and it tends to go by quickly. We’re here for you and we’ve been in your shoes with doubt. Just know this, you won’t find another God that is alive and died for you and loves you more than you’ll ever know. It is free and all you have to do is accept it.
