What is The Well?
Ask someone what comes to mind when you say "Christian" and you'll hear words like, "boring", "judgmental", "polyester suits", and "meaningless rituals". Somehow, Christians have really screwed up what it means to be a Christian. That's not how Jesus intended it to be. We're trying to restore what he was after by changing the perception of church. We're attempting to remove all the unnecessary garbage and letting it be all that it was intended to be.
In John 4, there is a story about Jesus, a well, and a woman. In this story, an irreligious woman came to the well to get some water, and while she was there she met Jesus. She knew about God, but she had never really known Him personally. She had been trying to quench her inner thirst in ways that had brought much pain and loss into her life. But that day at the well, she met Jesus and accepted His invitation to experience the water that would cause her to never thirst again. The woman left the well that day a changed person. She went away from there and told everyone in her community about her encounter at the well with Jesus.
The passion that makes us get up every morning is that this same story can be told in the lives of those in our own community. Jesus focused on serving one person at a time. It’s from this passage we get the name and mission for our church.
